St Andrews Drive

St Andrews Drive 20

There are 15 different areas in Glasgow included in GoWell – one of which is St Andrews Drive. The map shows the study area boundaries for St Andrews Drive.

We are interested in St Andrews Drive because it is part of the community regeneration programme currently taking place in Glasgow. This may involve both internal and external improvements to people's homes, demolition and the building of new homes, and attempts to support communities with improved services and amenities. These activities provide an opportunity to find out from local residents if and how their health and lives change as a result of investment in their homes and their neighbourhood.

We are carrying out a number of resident surveys over our ten year study. These consist of interviews conducted face-to-face at people’s homes and include a whole range of questions about how people feel about their homes, their neighbourhood, services in the area, their lifestyle and circumstances and their health and wellbeing.

Over time this will give us a picture of how regeneration is affecting residents. What are the important changes? Have things got better or worse – and for whom? These findings will be used to help planners improve services and regeneration in St Andrews Drive and elsewhere in the future.

If you've been involved in one of our surveys you can find additional information about your participation here.

We have conducted three surveys in St Andrews Drive to date: the first in 2006 in which 196 participants took part; the second in 2008 in which 232 participants took part and the third in 2011 in which 247 participants took part. The fourth and final survey took place in 2015 and the results are being analysed and published on an ongoing basis.

Findings so far

A small selection of findings from these three surveys with St Andrews Drive residents are shown below:

  • In 2011, 71% of residents were satisfied or very satisfied with the overall condition of their home. This had increased from 66% in 2006.
  • In 2011, 69% of participants were very or fairly satisfied with their neighbourhood as a place to live. This had increased from 56% in 2006.
  • 68% of participants felt part of their community in 2011. This was the same as in 2008, when this question was first asked.
  • 32% of participants rated their general health as excellent or good in 2011. This was similar to that in 2006.
  • In terms of empowerment, 36% of participants in 2011 felt that on their own, or with others, they could influence decisions affecting their local area. This had increased from 14% in 2006.

We share and discuss the findings for all the GoWell study areas with various service providers across Glasgow to encourage them to consider the findings when planning and prioritising services and amenities. These include Glasgow City Council Area Committees, Community Planning Partnerships, Local Housing Organisation Committees, Community Health and Care Partnerships and others.
